Initial Idea

We had many ideas about what to do for our opening sequence which with all ideas we looked into with depth.

Idea 1:

Plot: a woman is walking around London and is clearly drunk and high. We then see a man talk to her but we can't understand what he is saying. The screen goes black and then suddenly a birds eye view shot shows the woman opening her eyes. It then zooms out and she is tied to a bed and looking like she has spend several day there. The screen then fades to black and we hear a scream.

Setting: The first location we wanted to use was Shoreditch, London because theres nice lighting up at christmas which will make the filming look more like she's high as the lights will be really bright but also not in focus. We also wanted to use London because there will be a lot of people so the audience will not know who's the kidnapper which will add an enigma code to the opening sequence. Then when she's in a bed tied up we wanted to have her in an old and dirty basement/underground room because its a conventional location for a horror film.

Inspiration: For inspiration on the first few scenes in London we looked at a music video on YouTube called 'Stay High' by Tove Lo. This video was filmed at a really nice angle which meant that the audience could see everything she does but also making the background blurry to emphasise the fact that she's high. We really liked how at the start she was moving quite slow to show her disorientation and confusion. It then got faster which interests us as we thought it made it look like she had been high for a long time. Here's the video:

A soundtrack we wanted when she wakes up is the opening theme to the popular TV series 'Orphan Black' (2013). We liked this because it started off slow but then picked up. The start of the song would be playing when she's walking in London but slowed down to mirror her slow and disoriented walking. The ending of the song will be played when the camera is panning out on the girl laying in the bed. We then released that we couldn't use this as it would be copyright to use an already existing song in our opening sequence. Here's the soundtrack:
